Beach House - Tyrella
The commission was to design a new two storey holiday home, to replace an existing dwelling, on the beach at Tyrella. The brief was for a lounge, a sun-room (overlooking the sea), a kitchen and utility room and five bedrooms.
Design
The site is unusual as it is accessed directly from the beach. However there is a possibility that access may be provided from the opposite side in the future. This meant that orientation was a consideration but, as the client required a sun room overlooking the sea, locating the main entrance on the side is a logical compromise. The main door is therefore on the gable elevation and is set in an open porch to provide a shelter. The roof pitch drops to single storey level on the landward side.
